IHSC Bus Smoking Policy

The following is the IHSC smoking policy for ski bus trips. This policy has been adopted for the IHSC and will be enforced by the trip leaders and officers.

  1. ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING on the IHSC trip buses by any trip participant or bus driver.
  2. When signing up for a trip, participants will be asked if they are smokers. A sign-up sheet will be established for smokers.
  3. Prior to departure, the Trip Leader will determine whether any trip participants want a smoking stop. If there is a need for a smoking stop, the Trip Leader in conjunction with the bus driver will determine the approximate time and location of the stops. This information will be announced by the Trip Leader.
  4. If no one wants a smoking stop, there will not be one.
  5. Smoking stops will last no longer than 10 minutes.
  6. All trip participants will stay on the bus during the smoking stops unless they are going to smoke. Trip participants leaving the bus will stay within sight and earshot of the bus and return as quickly as possible.
  7. There will be no smoking stops planned after midnight.
  8. There will be no smoking stops on 1-day trips.

To enforce this policy, trip leaders and officers will have the authority to ask anyone smoking on the bus to extinguish their cigarettes and to refrain from smoking until the smoking stop.
